C.R. “bike friendly” open house at Lindale Mall on Saturday

Updated: There’s no mention of tricycle racing, so that must have fallen through, but here are some other details from a news release sent out today by the City of Cedar Rapids:

The City of Cedar Rapids Bicycle Advisory Committee will host a Bicycle Friendly Community Open House on Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lindale Mall, 4444 First Avenue NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The event is free and open to the public. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the process and steps necessary to become Bicycle Friendly Community.

Everyone is welcome to meet the and Paul Salamon with his Xtracycle BUV from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a Cedar Rapids Police Department Bike Patrol officer from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. See displays of the Bicycle Trail Plan, Bicycle Facility Map and upcoming Special Events with the opportunity to give feedback and comments.

Salamon is a member of the Bicycle Advisory Committee and a certified cycling instructor.

Previously:

If you’d like to see, discuss and have some input into where Cedar Rapids is heading in its quest for Bicycle Friendly Community status, stop in at Lindale Mall between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Time it right, and you might even catch some local officials racing around on tricycles. I’m not sure about the tricycles, but that was one idea that came up Tuesday evening during another Bicycle Advisory Committee workshop at the CRPD.

The Saturday “open house” at Lindale – somewhere near the Sears store – is the next step in developing a plan and applying for BFC status this summer.

There should be plenty of time to go for a bike ride Saturday morning, then get to that open house. (See that link below about HBA rides? Hint, hint.)

Bundle up. There’s been talk of snow.
