Another newspaper says ‘Share the Road’

There were some sensible words on the Cedar Rapids Gazette’s opinion page this morning, agreeing with the views of many thousands of sensible Iowans who recognize that there’s a place for alternative transportation here on our farm-to-market roads.

Share the Road 003cBanning bicycles is not the way to go, they say, although “perhaps restrictions need some fine tuning.”

I can’t tell, but I hope that last part means the state needs to pass bicycle safety legislation all the way in the next legislative session. Those restrictions would be on how close a motorized vehicle can come to a bicycle – the only restrictions I can think of that make sense.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen spoke out on that just a few days ago, but much more clearly.
