Cedar Rapids will host 2009 state criterium championships

Great news for the Cedar Rapids Challenge posted this morning on bikeiowa.org by Rick Paulos, local coordinator for the Iowa Bicycle Racing Association:

The 2009 Iowa Criterium State Championships will be held in Cedar Rapids on June 28.

Organized by the Hawkeye Bicycle Association. The course will their first downtown course from the Wheaties/Schwinn days over the 2 bridges, 2nd ave & 3rd ave. Flat & fast. About 1 km around. No rail road crossings on this course. And 1 year after those bridges were submerged under the epic flood.

Organizing commitee is Vern Rotert, Chris Reed, Larry Howe & Geoff Eastburn.

The decision on the crit was finalized at the IBRA meeting sunday.

The race will be an affiliated event for the annual Freedom Festival.
