South Carolina bike safety law good model for Iowa?

South Carolina passed a law in June that can result in fines and even jail time for motorists who endanger cyclists.

Among other things, according to an article in American Bicyclist, the law requires a “safe operating distance between the motor vehicle and a bicycle.” Drivers who “harass, taunt, or maliciously throw an object” at a cyclist can wind up in jail for 30 days.

Passing inside that safe operating distance is often called “buzzing.” It’s common, scary and dangerous.

I’d like to see a similar law in Iowa. I’d like to know what you think. Just add a comment. Thanks.
